The strategic goal of bridging the technological gap between the company and leading international manufacturers is to be accomplished by building alliances with leaders in different segments of the world auto-market, establishing joint-ventures, acquiring licenses, as well as purchasing entire industrial-technological facility for manufacturing one or another model of machinery. To maximize the attainment of innovative potential, the major Engineering Center was established at the Sector, which allows to booster the development of new models in all segments of the automobile industry.
Upgrades of manufacturing systems, as well as the introduction of TPS principles (Toyota Production Systems) along with lean manufacturing increased the daily production efficiency and quality (the number of defects per vehicle has decreased by a factor of 10 from 2003 to 2007).
Striving for concentration on core competencies (development, engineering, production of main units, and vehicle assembly) GAZ Group has introduced the Make-or-Buy system, which puts into practice the idea of establishing an auto-components business based on all auxiliary units. The strategic goal of this project is gradual transition to supplying components to the Group's production facilities, as well as to other OEMs operating in the market.
