Basel Aero and Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen signed a cooperation agreement to increase the throughput capacity of airports in the Krasnodar Territory at the Moscow International Aviation & Space Salon.
Jeppesen's state-of-the-art technologies are able to reduce substantially the risk of airports closure during poor weather, to modernize air traffic control systems and to improve air space use.
Basel and Jeppesen will start to work together at Sochi International Airport, where up to 10 percent of flights can be delayed due to poor weather in the winter months.
"Jeppesen's solutions will enable airport closures to be reduced considerably, thereby increasing its throughput capacity and the level of service for airlines and comfort for passengers. This is particularly important in the run-up to the 2014 Winter Olympics, when even the slightest airport disruptions must be eliminated," said Sergei Likharev, General Director, Basel Aero Airports Group.
Sherry Carbary, Vice President of Boeing Flight Services, commented: "Boeing possesses global expertise at integrating the technological capabilities of modern aircraft with existing air traffic management systems. Our solutions can enhance the use of airspace and bring considerable benefits to all airspace users in Russia."
Basel Aero, established in May 2007, operates airports in Krasnodar, Sochi, Gelendzhik, Yeisk and Anapa. It is part of the diversified Basic Element holding. Basel Aero is the biggest and most rapidly developing regional airports group in Russia. Overall passenger throughput was 4.7 million in 2010, 36.2 percent more than in 2009. The group's airports handled 2.04 million passengers in the first half of 2011 and 5.3 million are expected this year as a whole. The Basel Aero Group of Airports focuses directly on airport services. Aircraft fuelling, in-flight catering, airport retail, hospitality, medical and other services are outsourced. The Group's main goals are to improve commercial and operating activity through increased productivity, infrastructure refurbishment and upgrades, and developing non-aviation forms of business; to create a centralized airport hub in southern Russia, based in the city of Krasnodar; and to expand the Group's business beyond southern Russia and apply the advanced airports management model in other regions.
